Google’s relationship with NASA got even more intimate as the search & technology company hosted NASA scientists yesterday on the Google Jet to witness and study a meteor shower over the arctic.
The quadrantid meteor shower usually produces 100+ meteors per hour, but is seldom seen because of it being in the middle of winter and with its best view in the arctic. The 10 hour trip took NASA scientists from San Jose, over the arctic, then touching down again at Moffett Federal Airfield where the Google Jet is kept.
A deal with Google and NASA allows Google to store their jet at Moffett Federal Airfield Hangers in exchange for revenue and the occasional research trip or NASA scientists.
Google Earth may be broadcasting the meteor shower, and some other online services like Slooh will be doing so.
