Google Image Search Gets the Rainbow Color Treatment

Google Image Search Gets the Rainbow Color Treatment

Google has just rolled out color filtering to Image Search. It’s a pretty simple feature that lets you get image results based on preferred color. This is in addition to the other filtering options that were previously enabled on Image Search.

To enable the filtering option,  try using a specific keyword, say – rain. If you don’t select a filtering option or if the option is set to all colors, you’d get all possible images depicting rain or images associated with rain.  To filter your search results, click on the color drop down and choose, for example “purple”.  See what results you got.  Was the result accurate?

You can also combine the image color filter with the other available filtering options such as clipart or drawing or photos.

And why the need for this color filters in image search results? The Official Google Blog has this to say:

Color is one of the basic visual elements of an image. Whether you’re browsing through photos of sea creatures and flowers or searching for the perfect orange butterfly, we hope you like our new color filter.

Alright, time to have fun with the Google Image Search color filter. If you don’t have it yet, Google says to wait for awhile as this feature has not been enabled to everyone yet.
