Sheryl Sandberg, the Vice President of Global Online Sales & at Google for six years, has deflected to Facebook where she will serve as their new Chief Operating Officer. Facebook announced the move today, and Sandberg will officially join the Facebook team just after Easter on March 24, 2008.
As Facebook’s new COO, Sandberg will be charged with helping the company scale its operations and expanding its global presence. According to the press release, she will “manage sales, marketing, business development, human resources, public policy, privacy and communications and will report directly to Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg.”
Sandberg began her career at Google in 2001. While at Google she has also served on the board of Google.org (“The Google Foundation”), and directed the Google Grants program.
She received a master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School, and has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard College, where she graduated summa cum laude and was awarded the John H. Williams Prize as the top graduating student in economics. She lives in Northern California with her husband and two kids.
