Yahoo has just launched its search portal in India a couple of days ago. And to coincide with the launch, it is being reported that Yahoo India has been displaying a new search result that combines text, image and video results in one search results page. The new search results run alongside the usual search results on search results page.
Reports also say that this new search results page is called as Glue Pages Beta, and if it were any indication of a new Yahoo search results format that is being tested, then we might see this implemented in Yahoo’s international search portal too.
The Glue Pages Beta was said to be currently working on health, sports, entertainment, travel, technology, and finance search categories.
As to why Yahoo decided to test the new search result format or the Glue Pages in its Indian portal, Tapan Bhat, a senior vice president at Yahoo said that India was one of the Yahoo’s most important market and the number of new users in the site is growing steadily.
In addition to aggregating image, texts and video results of searches conducted on the Indian portal, Yahoo has also contracted third party content providers which were allowed to have their web site published on a Yahoo India Search Glue Page. Possibly as a paid link ads later on, when the Glue Page is launched internationally?
Hopefully, the test goes well and Yahoo eventually decides to implement this in the international Yahoo search portal as well. This could be a good addition to the way we experience web search when using Yahoo search.
