Yahoo has just launched a new site that goes by the moniker “Shine”. It a new site by and for women. Everything you’d always wanted to ask about women, well I doubt if you can find in Yahoo Shine. Not really because Yahoo Shine doesn’t want to be branded as your typical website for women containing topics such as “how to please your man advice” or “how to lose a pound in 10 days”. You won’t find those articles in Shine; you’d have better luck with your local women’s magazine.
So what you won’t find on Shine: Advice on how to please your man and diets that urge you to “lose 10 pounds fast!” What you will find on Shine: Why buying an expensive “It Bag” is a waste of money; how to make a meal in 30 minutes; how to make a face mask out of last night’s 30-minute meal (okay not really but you get the idea), how to de-stress at your desk; sharp, opinionated takes on the news; and finally, that you aren’t alone in your “Dancing with the Stars” obsession. We get it.
We didn’t want to be a site just for moms or just for single women or working women, or any specific demo- or psychographic. We wanted to create a smart, dynamic place for women to gather, get info and to connect with each other and the world around them.
What Shine, wants to accomplish is to give a smart, empowering, and opinionated site for and by women and so they say.
In the meantime here are the goodies that you’d find in the Yahoo Shine portal.
- Fashion and Beauty
- Healthy Living
- Entertainment
- Parenting
- Love and Sex
- Work and Money
- Food
- At Home
Now, wait, aren’t those topics common in most women magazines, be it printed or online?
Anyway, if you want to give it a spin, you may want to start with blogging in Yahoo Shine. The site has a blogging feature for interested women who wants to contribute in developing the site as a full-blown, content-rich site for women. The blogging feature, I guess was included to put a Web 2.0 relevancy to the site.
Check out Yahoo Shine and see for yourself if it has the potential to go viral. Why wouldn’t it? On its launch day, you got Tom (Cruise) bashing on the headlines.
