What would the world be like without apps? Our smartphones wouldn’t be smart. And tablets would just be paperweights. So, yeah. Without going into too much depth, life would seem kind of boring and unproductive.
But, what’s going to happen when smartphones and tablets are replaced by high-tech headgear like Google Glass? That’s a question that we’ll begin to explore as we move closer to the official release of Google Glass.
One thing is already guaranteed, however. Google’s heavily anticipated project will just be a pair of ridiculous-looking glasses that can just capture images and videos without the addition of apps. Like our phones, tablets or iPads, Google Glass will be a waste if it’s not full of applications.
Unfortunately, when compared to what’s available on iTunes or Google Play, there aren’t a plethora of Google Glass applications…just yet. That’s why the big G has been relying on developers to build apps, such as games like a ‘3D Space Invaders’.
But, there are some apps that should be ready to roll when Google Glass hits the streets, and certainly more on the way. For now, here’s ten of them that are absolutely essential.
10. GlassWedgies
For those of us who are indecisive, GlassWedgies is a real time social app that can answer life’s hard questions, like should I order a pizza? Your network of friends can then give you a simple yes or no response. A neat little app that can spark some interesting interaction. Eventually, we hope that this app can be used by SEOs on a bigger network.
9. Glass Nest
This might not exactly be something that can be used in SEO work, but The Nest is just a nifty device that can control the thermostat at home while on-the-go. Having a Nest app on Google Glass makes setting the temperature truly a hands-free chore.
8. Gmail
If you’re purchasing a pair of Google Glass, then we’re guessing that you also have a Gmail account. If that’s the case, then why wouldn’t you get the Gmail app? You will, after all, have to check your email while walking down the street getting suspicious looks from people afraid of those glasses you’re wearing.
7. Ice Breaker
Are you interested in meeting new people in the area, but don’t know how to exactly break the ice? You’re definitely not the only one. Which is probably why the developers behind the appropriately titled app Ice Breaker cam up with the idea of a game that breaks the ice between strangers.
6. Fancy
Fancy is another app that may not be exactly in line with the usual online marketing features you catch here at SEJ, but it’s certainly one of the most enticing apps for Google Glass. The app allows users to search for product information, recommendations, account details or accessories of matching colors via images or voice command. This could be the future of shopping.
5. Marketing Land
Here’s an app that every SEO sporting Google Glass will have to get a hold of. Marketing Land provides subscribers to hourly Internet marketing news and updates regarding digital marketing directly on Google Glass. Can’t get that much more convenient.
4. Evernote
We’re big fans of Evernote. So, why wouldn’t we like the idea of accessing business reports, files or something as simple as a grocery list right in the field of view when needed?
3. Meetups
What if you’re walking down the street wearing your brand new Google Glass and decide you’re looking for something to do? That’s where the Meeups app comes into play. Like most people discovery apps out there, Meetups allows you to hook up with friends or strangers or discover new places to hangout. Except that all this info literally jumps in front of you.
2. Reddit
Since Reddit is the so-called “homepage of the internet,” the Google Glass app makes for an essential installation. Upload content from the exciting, or frightening for some people, new product for the extensive Reddit-Glass network to share and discuss. Brands can also use the Reddit app to create viral content that could expand their business as well.
1. Genie
The Genie Google Glass app pretty much does everything for you, whether that be notes, reminding you where you parked or connecting and sharing content with others. Genie is a collection of services that will most likely “magnify your life”.
