Google Acquires Quicksee, a 3D Video Tour Creating Software

As of yesterday MentorWave Technologies announced on their site that Google has acquired their product, Quicksee, for $12 million. There were rumors of the acquisition over the weekend, but neither party would confirm or deny the transaction.

Quicksee is a video tour software that creates 3D videos. It is very similar to Google Street View, but it doesn’t require a vehicle driving around recording locations. Any user with the software can create videos on their own with just a regular video camera. Co-founders Rony Amira, Gadi Royz, and Assaf Harel will be joining the Google geo team.

The acquisition took place with the assumption that Google will be using the Quicksee technology to enhance its own geo products like the aforementioned Street View, along with Maps and Earth.
