Google has won ownership of the domain name froogle.co.uk, which was registered in the UK by a web hosting company – LWD Internet. Google alleged that LWD Internet, an e-commerce solutions provider (www.lwdinternet.co.uk) registered the Froogle.co.uk domain name one day after Google launched it’s Froogle.com website.
When Google tried to register the Froogle.co.uk domain name on December 13th, 2002, it realized that the domain name was already registered. According to published report, Google sent an email to LWD Internet immediately regarding the registration, and then a chaser email on December 31st 2002. No replies were made to Google.
Google insists the domain registration was an “abusive registration”. Ultimately, Keith Gymer, an expert for Nominet, agreed with Google and concluded the domain name should be transferred to Google.
The domain’s WHOIS info now reads Google’s information.
