Mobile is huge and you can’t deny it. More and more searches are being conducted via mobile search. Whenever technology advances, it generally takes a while before all the kinks are worked out and everybody is on board with the new changes.
Many webmasters have already adopted the changes and many have yet to get on board. As you’re searching on your mobile phone, you’re bound to run into some frustrations. Webmasters must understand the effect of a mobile friendly interface. When a customer becomes frustrated, they will leave and find someone else who can help them effectively.
There are a few major problems right now that mobile users are experiencing. They are:
- Being sent to a 404 page if there is no mobile friendly page
- Desktop pages are being redirected to a central location (typically the home page). Looks like the image below
- Infinite redirect loop (Google frowns upon this error). You can solve that here.
- Videos that won’t play
To supercharge this adoption process, Google has officially been found to say the following:
To improve the search experience for smartphone users and address their pain points, we plan to roll out several ranking changes in the near future that address sites that are misconfigured for smartphone users.
This is big! I anticipate the mobile web to improve significantly within the next few months. I’d love to know your thoughts. What changes do you need to make for your website?
