Microsoft Live Search has unveiled its new web service, the Live Search News (LSN). The Live Search News is very similar to Google News, or a more appropriate way of putting it is that LSN seems to be a toned down version of Google News.
The Live Search News portal sports a simple and yet aesthetically pleasing design very similar to Techmeme. An outstanding feature of Live Search News is the orange colored breaking news which only appears when big news are picked up by the Live Search crawlers.
Unfortunately, although Live Search News seems promising, it has some shortcomings too. For one, it provides breaking-news information coming from only one partner yet, and that is MSNBC.
Another interesting feature of Live Search New is a local news widget located on a site’s sidebar. Live Search automatically detects users’ IP addresses. It then feeds relevant news items about the locality where a user is located.
Live Search News features a “Top News Videos” section which provides relevant and clickable videos that displays images or previews clips automatically. This is one feature of the Live Search News that differentiates it from Google News.
On the looks department, Live Search News scores one against Google, as LSN’s portal sports a simpler design than that of Google News.
