Search Engine Strategies New York Parties
Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend SES NY this year. Although after last year’s 4 days of attending panels, blogging, interviews and drinking like a fish (that’s a bit of an overstatement), my liver will be thanking me. The major parties I attended last year were the Ask Jeeves, Yahoo 10 Year Anniversary, and Google After Hours parties. Ask Jeeves was a blast because I had a chance to meet and interview American Idol Superstar William Hung (although the underdeveloped rib-cage exposing dancing teenage girls in the lounge area was a bit weird) .
The Yahoo party was awesome and I had the chance to talk a bit with Andy Beal, Jeremy Zawodny, Tara, and Chris Knowles of Topix.net. At the Google party I got a bit tipsy and offended some spywear people by addressing them during a group conversation in not such a polite way (although I was not specifically referring to their mothers). Even at the conference one of the booths on the top floor had a keg of Samuel Adams tapped, which led me to doing a quick interview that earned me an extra pint.
From the list of parties which have been made public to date, the drinking rounds at SES NY 2006 seem a bit tame. Perhaps this is part of the ValleyWag effect, as some search companies may want to keep tabs on the flow of liquor which led to a fight last year by two search employees over a girl that I almost had to step into and break up with my amazing Aikido powers.
