Last week Search Engine Journal’s Murray Newlands stopped by the BrightEdge #SHARE13 conference in San Francisco to meet up with some of the leaders of the SEO space. It was a great event for networking with industry figureheads, as well as learning what’s trending among SEO experts, and how to develop successful marketing and optimization strategies around such trends.
While the topics of conversation were diverse, ranging from scalability to secure search, the buzzword at SHARE was undoubtedly “content.” In many of Murray’s interviews, SEO experts such as Jim Yu, Mike Grehan, and Mel Carson explained the importance of creating quality content, as well as a strong marketing strategy for said content in order to boost organic search rankings. According to the experts, SEO is no longer about keywords, backlinks, and in many cases just sheer content, rather, it’s about what Google perceives a page’s value to be to the user. In short, it’s all about the end user experience.
Other key topics covered included the growth of secure search, as well as device optimization. Secure search is leading to the need for page optimization rather than key phrase optimization. The growth of mobile traffic means pages have to be optimized for mobile, but it’s not a one size fits all solution—phone users have a different experience to tablet users.
Overall, SHARE was a great conference that hosted a number of informative panels and speakers, and with such a vast array of SEO influencers on hand, it was an event that we couldn’t afford to miss.
