Google will cooperate with Sina, one of the top portals in China, on search and advertising. Sina has already added Google’s search box to their portal.
Google and the Chinese Internet destination Sina have partnered for search and online advertising as Google will now provide the search technology for Sina along with AdWords advertising.
“Sina is the most influential portal in China and a household brand in China’s Internet industry,” said Kai-Fu Lee, vice president of Google and president of Google Greater China. “The strategic partnership with Sina is just another example of Google’s continuous localization efforts in China.”
In China, Google currently has a 22% market share, which is second only to Baidu’s 55% share. This new partnership with Sina will help Google China distribute more searches and content from the Sina portal such as news and finance may be syndicated via Google China.
This is a nice scoop for Google and will increase their market share, both for search as on the advertising side.
