While the smartphones market in Japan has only reached a 6% penetration rate compared to 31% in the United States and 30% in the United Kingdom the countries users are far more engaged with the devices they do own.
The infographic shown below demonstrates the true impact smartphones have had on Japanese consumers. Among the countries favorite activities is browsing the web (78% of users) and a worldwide
leading 59% of users who share video’s over their phones. Users in Japan also spend more time in “daily online sessions, frequency of smartphone usage for accessing the web, searching for general
information, using their phones to check their email, use of search engines and even the number of apps that they have installed on their phones.
In fact out of 18 top phone user categories Japan’s users ranked No. 1 in 10 spots.
Among the countries top choice in operating systems is the Google Android OS which operates 5.8 million devices compared to Apple’s 3.8 million share.
With such a large smartphones stake up for grabs we’ll likely see many more advances and pushes from mobile manufacturers operating in the region as they try to capture a slice of the Japanese mobile
