Recode reports Snapchat announced it has has now reached 8 billion video views per day; which means it’s now serving the same amount of daily video views as Facebook. This is especially notable when you put into perspective that Snapchat has 100 million daily active users, compared to Facebook’s one billion daily active users.
The news was announced at a a private event on Monday that the app by CEO Evan Spiegel at Morgan Stanley’s Tech, Media & Telecom conference in San Francisco. Recode’s sources say a number of other stats were shared; over half of Snapchat’s new users are over the age of 25, and those who log in daily are spending an average of 30 minutes with the app each day.
When counting video views, Snapchat is counting videos shared by users as well as videos from its publishing partners in the Discover channel. The company did not report on its current count of daily active users, which has not been revealed since last May.
