Have you ever wanted to own an elusive domain name like AV.com? What about webserver.com? Well if you’ve got the cash Yahoo is giving you the opportunity to bid on over 100 such domains in a week-long auction running from November 14th through November 21st.
Yahoo announced on their on their Tumblr blog they have been holding on to these domains for quite some time and have finally decided to let them go.
It sounds like they forgot they even had them according to how they phrased the announcement:
“When you’re a company that’s been around as long as Yahoo, there are lots of fun things that you stumble across,” says Kevin Kramer, Yahoo Deputy General Counsel.
Stumbling on these domains may prove to be the most lucrative thing Yahoo has done lately, with prices ranging from $5,000 for a domain like cyberjokes.com, to $1.5 million for the aforementioned AV.com, there’s no doubt they will make a fair bit of money from these auctions.
There are some real interesting ones in their full list of domains that could prove to be well worth the investment depending on what the winning bidder decides to do with them. Yahoo says even more are still to be listed.
Domain names still hold quite a bit of weight when it comes to search engine rankings. A “premium” domain name, like the ones Yahoo are auctioning off, might be just what your business needs to rank above the competition.
Are there any domain names in the list that you’d like to own? What would you do with them? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!
