Yahoo Expands Global Mobile Leadership with Regional Initiatives

Yahoo continues its regional expansion program with several regional initiatives aimed at establishing its mobile presence in various Asian countries. These initiatives include search partnership with nine Asian mobile operators, continued localization Yahoo! Go 2.0 and Yahoo OneSearch

Mobile partnership with  Asian mobile operators

Adding up to Yahoo’s current distribution partnership with 20 mobile operators worldwide are nine more partnership agreements with 9 mobile operators from Asian countries. These mobile operators are:

 

  • Aircel Limited (India),
  • BPL Mobile (India),
  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL; India),
  • DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi; Malaysia)
  • PT EXCELCOMINDO PRATAMA Tbk. (Excelcom; Indonesia),
  • PT Hutchison CP Telecom (Hutch 3; Indonesia),
  • PT Indosat, Tbk (Indosat; Indonesia),
  • PCCW Mobile HK Limited (Hong Kong) and Starhub Ltd (Singapore)

The agreement aims to enhance mobile consumers experience through enhanced mobile search capabilities with Yahoo.

Enhancing User’s Mobile Experience with Yahoo! Go 2.0

With its innovative application, Yahoo! Go 2.0, Yahoo allows mobile users to personalize their mobile content culled not only from Yahoo network but from the whole internet as well. Yahoo! Go 2.0 has various nifty applications that are available for the public to use. Widgets, personal channels for e-mail, local information, satellite, hybrid maps, news, sports, finance, entertainment, Flickr photo sharing and mobile search. Localized version of Yahoo! Go 2.0 are available as well.

Oras Rege said that no mobile application has managed to assemble the fragmented Internet service into a single easy-to-use experience”, until Yahoo! Go 2.0 came into the scene.
“We’re continuing to innovate and develop mobile products that deliver positive consumer experiences and drive the mobile market forward,” says Rege.

Expanding Yahoo! OneSearch

Yahoo! OneSearch has started incorporating content from Yahoo! Answers and Wikipedia on consumers’ mobile search results. This would allow mobile consumers to tapped into the untapped resources that can be found in the Internet’s largest knowledge sharing community and reference site while even on the move.

Yahoo! OneSearch is also currently available for regions such Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico.
